BATGIRL OF BURNSIDE Redux

Although I’d posted some pics of this Batgirl before, Tony Martins (@TonyM_Photo) took these much-improved photos. This 1/6th scale figure was sculpted with a mixture of Sculpey Firm and Apoxie over an aluminum foil armature, primed, and painted with acrylic paints and Cel-Vinyl.

I based this pose on the cover of her first appearance in Detective Comics #359, as drawn by Carmine Infantino, with additional design input by John Vukelic. This was done for the 6th Annual Hub Comics DARK KNIGHT ON A DARK NIGHT Batman art show.

Batgirl was created by Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino, and redesigned by Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr (and you can see where Babs Tarr autographed it under the Batgirl logo in that last picture!).

I was excited by the new creative team on BATGIRL- writer/breakdown artist Cameron Stewart, co-writer Brenden Fletcher, artist Babs Tarr, colorist Maris Wicks and letter Jared K. Fletcher– and I wanted to sculpt Barbara Gordon in her new costume.

These pictures were shot on-site in the display case. I’ll try to get some better pictures soon.

It’s the Winter Solstice and time for the annual Hub Comics DARK KNIGHT ON A DARK NIGHT Batman art show!

And above is my contribution, designed for me in record time by Erica Henderson. Here’s her design:

The 4th Annual DARK KNIGHT ON A DARK NIGHT Art Show

Every year near the Winter Solstice, Hub Comics in Somerville, Massachusetts holds an exhibition of Batman art by local artists. My 12 Days of the Batman mini-busts were on display, as well as numerous other works by some great artists.

DARK KNIGHT on a DARK NIGHT

Here is a link to some pics from Hub Comics third annual Dark Knight on a Dark Night art show. Held every December near the Solstice, the show features original Batman-related art by artists local to Somerville, MA.

There was some really great work this year, and I was very proud to be a part of it.

Professor Pyg Mask

Life-sized, wearable foam-rubber latex mask of the eerie Batman villain Professor Pyg, created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, and illustrated in the inset by Fraser Irving. This was done for Hub Comics third annual Dark Knight on a Dark Night exhibit of original Batman art.
